Training Pathways
Learn to swim Teacher
Learn to swim Instructors mentor school-aged students aged three years and above. This pathway requires availability on Weekday afternoons. Training includes an Austswim accreditation, infant aquatic certification, 6 months of inhouse training, shadow teaching alongside SSA’s best teachers and progression tracking
Kinder Kids
Kinder Kids instructors teach swimmers who are yet to transition to school. This pathway aligns with those who prefer a quieter learning environment with fewer distractions. This pathway requires availability on Weekday mornings.
Training includes an Austswim accreditation and infant aquatic certification, 6 months of training, shadow teaching alongside SSA’s best teachers and progression tracking.

Leadership

Reception
Joining our wonderful reception team requires no prior experience. This pathway aligns with those who excel in fast-paced customer service roles. Training covers phone etiquette, barista training, client processing and handling. This pathway requires a minimum of three pool shifts per week.
Squad
Our Squad coaches excel in motivating our swimmers to push boundaries. This pathway aligns with those who aspire to become part of their student’s lives and build a healthy rapport. Training covers constructive criticism, inspiring swimmers to succeed, crafting relationships with families, tracking student progression, and running squad events.
Our Recruitment Process
STEP 1 - Apply via our application form

STEP 2 - Phone interview
We’ll chat with you over the phone about what makes you tick and your life plans and goals. We want to know you, your values, and your ideal work/life balance. At SSA, we understand you need a balanced home and work life to thrive in your career.
At the end of your phone interview, you may be asked if you would like to participate in the next phase of the application process, your in-water trial shifts.
STEP 3 - in-water trials
You will be in the water for up to three trial shifts. These shifts will give you the opportunity to test out if the fun pool environment is for you; and for us to see how you like to have fun and how you interact with the kids.
We hire our best candidates based on their personality and how they align with the SSA values – we can teach you the skills of swim teaching over the coming months.
Step 4 - Onboarding and Induction
If your trials are successful, you’ll be invited to come in for an induction and onboarding session, where you will get to meet the other team members in your training group. During this session, you will spend time with the management team to get you settled in, and you will start your learning journey with us.
Step 5 - Probation and Training
Throughout your initial training, you will be in a probation period where you will be given additional support until you find your feet within the crew. Your teacher training period will take an estimated 6 months, after which you have may have the opportunity to take on further learning paths which will ultimately shape your career journey with us here at SSA.
